Alligator in Lake Lanier

Seems there have been sightings of an alligator at Lake Lanier here in Georgia. Alligators are not native to the lakes of northern Georgia. Luckily, they say it is too small to be a danger to anyone.

Very nice bike/run yesterday and WTG Cathy on the bike!

Hey, we signed up for Kiawah Island Marathon in Dec., maybe you could do that one?

I forgot to mention in this post that this lake is home to many triathlons and is frequented by triathletes doing OWS's

I am petrified of alligators. This is why I love Iowa - it's a long way for any errant alligators to make it here!

Um. It still looks dangerous.

Someone bought it as a pet, realized how big it was gonna get and then released it. That's my guess. Stupid people.

Mama has to be around here somewhere ;-)

I'm not at all surprised. Seems like gators are being found in many places where they're not native, even as far north as Tennessee. I'd avoid swimming alone at dawn/dusk and in weedy areas where they tend to lurk.

That's nuts. Remind me not to visit the area anytime soon.

No thanks. No such thing as a "too small" alligator in my book.

WOW, definitely woudn't find me in there.

I am a bit behind but think I am caught up. Sorry about the misinformation at the 10K. It sounds like you were doing great. That is frustrating.

Now I see your comment that answers my question....why exactly do we care whether or not there are alligators in this lake? Oh...because there are triathlons there and folks doing OWS. Then YIKES!!

How fast do you think something like that could swim?
